Photo: www.digitalimage.atThe Palais Eschenbach is an historical building located in the heart of Vienna, near the famous Ringstrasse, the most beautiful and magnificent boulevard in Vienna. Inaugurated by Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria in 1872, it was built in the clear style of Palladian classicism according to the design of the architect Otto Thienemann.
The Austrian Society of Engineers and Architects (ÖIAV), current owners of the building, assigned Wehdorn Arkitekten to renovate the meetings rooms, which also included new lighting designed by the podpod design studio.
Iris and Michael Podgorschek assigned Targetti to install all the technical fixtures, while another company of the Targetti Poulsen Group, the Danish Louis Poulsen Company, supplied the beautiful Artichoke suspension lights that illuminate and add value to the small banquet hall on the main floor of the Palais. In the daytime, the timeless design of these classics by Poul Henningsen enhances the resulting atmosphere, while the quality of light emitted can truly be appreciated at night.
The large banquet hall, entirely covered in precious wood panelling and tapestries, is a beautiful example of how the technical fixtures can blend perfectly in a historical setting. This requires a design that is minimally invasive, simple and clean, like the one characterising the PUR professional projectors by Targetti. Adopted by the podpod studio in a special version bracket for halogen sources, these projectors were installed along the entire perimeter of the hall, just under the balcony. Others, in the standard version of metal halide lamps, were placed on the balustrade of the balcony itself, suitably pointed to emphasise the large painting found on one of the short sides of the hall.
Three ARC Deep fixtures are hidden deep inside the ceiling decorations that originally hid the connections of the chandeliers. The project, however, also called for recovering parts of the existing lighting: the suspension lights with three arms, in particular, were restored and updated to be fitted with new generation sources.
