A project by the architect Paolo Desideri (Studio ABDR, Rome) completed in just two years, the Opera Theatre revealed itself to the city of Florence. The innovative and advanced technologies used for this project include the sophisticated lighting system designed by Targetti for the true heart of the building: the main hall, able to accommodate an audience of 1800 spectators. The whole complex is a really pioneering, avant-garde cultural pole in Europe and one of the few in the world employing LED technology in such an extensive and strategic manner. LED sources equip the more than 300 lighting fixtures developed ah hoc for the Opera Theatre by Targetti in close cooperation with ABDR design studio and Baldieri Srl.
With the opening concert directed by Zubin Metha the new Theatre made its début, revealing itself not only as a place for entertaining but also as a cultural catalyst. The building is not located in the geographical center of the city, but very close to it and it is grazed by the green belt of the Parco delle Cascine that historically played a similar function as a place for meeting and socializing. The innovative lighting project, having in Targetti one of the main partners, helps in making this Theatre one of the (few) contemporary landmarks of the town, fascinating and attractive both daytime and nighttime.
