Built in the early eighteenth century the Palazzo delle Cento Finestre (Palace of One Hundred Windows) home to the BPM headquarters in Florence, is located between piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore and via de’ Cerretani. To mark its 150th anniversary Banca Popolare di Milano carried out extensive restoration work on the building in collaboration with the Superintendency of Fine Arts which brought to light a series of original frescoes and stuccoes that adorn the three floors of the building.
The architect Luca Valsecchi oversaw the entire project and entrusted Targetti with the job of enhancing the most valuable architectural details of the building through the use of light as well as ensuring the necessary conditions for environments used as offices.
The correct levels of illumination required by law for the workplace were obtained using SLIM, lightweight and minimal visual impact suspension fixtures (the section is only 4 cm x 2.6 cm). As a modular lighting system SLIM can be easily integrated even into frescoed rooms: double direct and indirect emission softly “washes” surfaces without interfering with the context as well as illuminating the entire space.
CORO projectors from the Light of Florence collection dedicated to the world of art and cultural heritage were installed on frames to emphasize particular details and in particular to give depth to the double volume frescoed ceilings.
Targetti LED BELT light strips were positioned inside the frames to light the vaulted ceilings indirectly and to create an undeniably charming effect. Special casings were made to integrate them into the architecture in the best way by Gervasi – the company that performed the installation work in close cooperation with the Site Manager. The same product was used also for double volume ceilings to “wash” the balcony area and to theatrically emphasize the height. The result is an elegant and functional environment that is both bright as well as comfortable.
