The result of careful renovation of an existing building that had been abandoned for years, the Teatro Uniatlantico is now today one of the crowning glories of the Universidad del Atlantico, a public university based in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The huge redevelopment project designed by the architect Carlos Bell created an avant-garde theatre that has made the Universidad del Atlantico a benchmark for other public universities in Colombia. An auditorium with a capacity of more than 1000 seats that is perfect for any kind of event, and two small secondary theatres that can seat up to 200 people.
Targetti provided support for the lighting design project and with LED light fixtures. The lighting project was developed according to the needs of an auditorium of this size:
• the need for extremely reliable fixtures to reduce maintenance to a minimum which is particularly difficult given the high installation heights and the presence of fixed seats;
• the need to use dimmable fixtures in order to create different light scenes in accordance with different moments during performances (calling the public in the auditorium, the need to highlight a particular scene, the public etc.)
To light the ceiling in the main theatre STORE GIMBAL DALI version recessed projectors were chosen. Given the perfect thermal management of the LED source, they ensure a long service life and reliable performance over time. The DALI controller also makes it possible to manage the flow of individual fixtures to ensure the same quality and quantity of light on seats placed at different heights. Despite having chosen a relatively wide beam (MWFL) the optical system of STORE GIMBAL minimises glare.
For the balconies and the two secondary theatres, mainly used as classrooms, very small
BEBOP fixtures were chosen that are capable of combining performance and visual comfort.
The secondary lighting and to characterise the space by highlighting structural details was made possible using
LED BELT.
