COLOR ARCHITECTURE WITH LIGHT
For its color-changing fixtures Targetti adopts RGBW LEDs which, in addition to allowing the emission of light in infinite color variations, allow obtaining white light with a complete spectrum and high color rendering thanks to the White diode.
RGBW technology can be developed either by using single monochromatic diodes (red, green, blue, white) placed alternately on an LED module, or by using RGBW Multichip LEDs that integrates 4 chips in different colours.
RGBW MULTICHIP LEDThe multichip solution equips LEDs with a compact case containing all the 4 color sources. The advantage of this solution is that the light emitted is mixed directly at the source without an appreciable color spread.
With the same overall consumption of the board, this solution has a greater luminous efficiency compared with that with single colored diodes, thanks to the greater dissipative surface of the multichip sources, a lower power density and therefore a lower operating temperature of the chips.
RGBW WITH SINGLE DIODESIn RGBW technology with single Power LEDs, the red, green, blue, white diodes are separated and alternate with each other in circular or linear modules.
Due to the high powers involved and the size of the lenses used, the separate chips are generally placed with a pitch of a few centimeters from each other. This means that the beams generated by the different sources remain distinct in proximity to the device; this color separation effect is more perceived in the grazing lighting of a wall.
The advantage of this RGBW technique lies in the fact that, containing a single chip, the LEDs can have extremely small emission surfaces, an important condition for obtaining optics with highly collimating lenses. The choice of using separate diodes is therefore more suitable where very narrow beam openings are required.
At Targetti we have adopted in the past both solutions, choosing the one most suitable for the specific optics in order to enhance their technical and performance characteristics. Today, with the evolution of technology, we are adopting multichip RGBW solutions as we believe they represent the best balance between efficiency and quality of the light emitted.
